Helping You Move Forward
My Journey
Welcome, I'm Leigh—founder of Transcending Trauma.
My path to becoming a trauma-informed therapist didn’t start in a classroom. It began with my own lived experience of trauma, PTSD, and deep soul-searching. As a former Royal Australian Air Force nurse and military veteran, I faced the devastating impact of sexual assault, bullying, and service-related trauma. These experiences brought my life to a halt—and then, slowly and profoundly, transformed it.
Through my healing journey, I discovered that true recovery is more than just surviving. It’s about gently reclaiming all parts of yourself—mind, body, and spirit—and learning to live with renewed purpose, strength, and authenticity.
This deep personal transformation became the foundation of my life’s work.
Today, I’m a registered psychologist, clinical hypnotherapist, Imago couples therapist and psychosomatic bodywork therapist. I’m also trained and supervised to an advanced level in Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) by Dr. Andrew Harkin and Dr. Frank Corrigan. DBR is a cutting-edge, neuroscience-informed trauma therapy that helps release trauma at its roots—in the brainstem and body—where traditional talk therapy often can’t reach.
My approach is integrative, holistic, and deeply respectful of the wisdom held in the body. I offer a choice of evidence-based psychological therapies or a combination of somatic bodywork, breathwork, hypnotherapy, trauma decoding, and psychosomatic face and body therapy to help you heal from the inside out.
I’ve worked extensively in sexual assault and domestic violence support centres, and my heart is especially dedicated to helping veterans, survivors of sexual trauma, and those living with complex PTSD, chronic pain, dissociation, and emotional distress.
In addition to one-on-one therapy and couples work, I facilitate empowerment groups, healing retreats, and host the Transcending Trauma podcast and radio show—where I interview local, national and international experts thought leaders, authors and experienced practitioners to explore the latest evidence-based and holistic interventions for mind-body wellness.
My role is not to “fix” you. It’s to walk beside you—to help you decode the messages your body holds, shift the internal beliefs shaped by trauma, and gently guide you back to your most authentic, empowered self.
You are not broken. You are becoming aware of the magnificent being that you are.
Let’s begin this journey together.
